Reinvention or..Get Real?

Is Reinvention or the idea of it giving you angst or bringing up fears? That’s perfectly normal. Life is never static, although we seem to be able to feel secure in that idea…of not having to change. Of keeping everything as it is.

Here’s an event that, if you’re in the metro NYC area, you might want to attend or at least read Jane Genova’s blog.

NY State Bar Association’s Career Transition Workshop March 17, 2010

“We Are Our Stories: Small Changes, Big Impacts” is the topic of a career transition workshop sponsored by the New York State Bar Association on March 17, from noon to 2 P.M. It will take place at Mitchell Silberberg & Krupp LLP, 12 East 49th Street, Manhattan, The host is MSK law partner Lauren J. Wachtler, an expert in intellectual property.

Jane Genova, President of Genova Writing, Coaching and More, New Haven, Connecticut, is conducting the session. “Minor adjustments in how professionals present themselves can open doors, almost effortlessly, to other lines of work,” observes Genova. “There’s no need for an extreme makeover.” In spring her new book “Over-50: How We Keep Working” will be published. Previously she co-authored “The Critical 14 Years of Your Professional Life.” Her syndicated blogs are a great read, especially for women like us who want to break out of “the box”.

Law, like a number of professional services, has been undergoing a paradigm shift. For the cost-efficiency demanded by clients the new models tend to reduce manpower demand. That is particularly the situation at the associate level. The mantra has become: Do more with less.
